VA Disability Rating for Prolapse of the Rectum (DC 7334)

Diagnostic Code 7334 · 38 CFR §4.114

What Is It?

Rectal prolapse occurs when the rectum — the lower end of the large intestine — slides out of its normal position and protrudes through the anus. This can happen during bowel movements, physical exertion, or even standing or walking in severe cases. Veterans may develop this condition from heavy lifting during service, chronic straining from other digestive conditions, pelvic injuries, or nerve damage affecting the pelvic floor muscles. Prolapse causes significant discomfort, mucus drainage, difficulty controlling bowel movements, and bleeding.
