Diagnostic Code 7351 · 38 CFR §4.114
This diagnostic code covers veterans who have undergone a liver transplant due to end-stage liver disease. A liver transplant is a major surgery where the diseased liver is replaced with a healthy liver from a donor. Veterans may need a transplant due to cirrhosis from hepatitis B or C contracted during service, liver damage from toxic exposures, alcoholic liver disease secondary to service-connected PTSD, or other progressive liver conditions that originated during or were worsened by military service. After transplant, veterans require lifelong immunosuppressive medications and ongoing medical monitoring.
