Diagnostic Code 7317 · 38 CFR §4.114
This diagnostic code covers injuries to the gallbladder sustained during military service. These can include damage from penetrating wounds such as shrapnel or gunshot injuries to the abdomen, blunt force trauma from explosions or vehicle accidents, or surgical complications from emergency procedures. Even after the initial injury heals, the gallbladder may not function properly, leading to chronic digestive problems, recurring pain, and difficulty processing fatty foods. Some gallbladder injuries require emergency removal, which is rated under a different code.
