Diagnostic Code 7203 · 38 CFR §4.114
Esophageal stricture is a narrowing of the esophagus that makes swallowing difficult. The narrowing can be caused by scar tissue from chemical burns, acid reflux damage, radiation therapy, surgical complications, or direct trauma. Veterans may develop this condition from ingestion of caustic substances, complications of service-connected GERD, radiation treatment for service-connected cancer, or direct injuries to the throat and esophagus during service.
