Diagnostic Code 6320 · 38 CFR §4.88b
This is a catch-all for parasitic infections without their own diagnostic code. The VA uses the General Rating Formula: active disease at 100 percent, and residual organ damage rated under appropriate body system codes.
| Rating | Criteria |
|---|---|
| 100% | Active parasitic infection confirmed by lab testing with symptoms requiring treatment. |
| 0% | Successfully treated. Residual organ damage is rated under affected body system codes. |
Stool examination, blood tests, or biopsy confirming the parasite. Deployment records to endemic areas. Treatment records. Documentation of chronic symptoms. Follow-up testing.
Yes. Many parasites, particularly Strongyloides stercoralis, can maintain chronic infections for decades through auto-infection.
While identifying the organism strengthens the claim, the VA can rate based on documented symptoms, exposure history, and treatment response.
