VA Disability Rating for Hyperthyroid Heart Disease (DC 7008)

Diagnostic Code 7008 · 38 CFR §4.104

What Is It?

Hyperthyroid heart disease occurs when an overactive thyroid gland produces too much thyroid hormone, which overstimulates the heart. The excess hormones can cause rapid heart rate, irregular rhythms like atrial fibrillation, high-output heart failure, and eventually permanent heart muscle damage. Veterans who developed hyperthyroidism during military service and went on to develop cardiac complications may qualify for disability compensation for the resulting heart disease.
