What Is It?

DC 6071 covers visual acuity of 20/200 in one eye when the other eye has relatively normal vision (20/40 or better). This represents legal blindness in one eye while retaining functional vision in the other. This asymmetric pattern is common in veterans with unilateral eye injuries from combat or training accidents. It rates at 30 percent.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I get SMC for blindness in one eye?

Yes. Special Monthly Compensation under SMC-K is available for anatomical loss or loss of use of one eye. If your worse eye has only light perception or no light perception, this additional compensation applies on top of your schedular rating.
