Diagnostic Code 6520 · 38 CFR §4.97
This diagnostic code covers residuals of laryngeal trauma and stenosis of the larynx, including scarring, narrowing, and functional impairment resulting from injuries to the voice box. Veterans may sustain laryngeal trauma from combat injuries, blast exposure, vehicular accidents, intubation during field surgery, or chemical and inhalation injuries. The residual effects can include breathing difficulty, voice changes, and airway compromise that persist long after the initial injury.
