Diagnostic Code 8002 · 38 CFR §4.124a
This diagnostic code covers malignant (cancerous) brain tumors, including primary brain cancers like glioblastoma, astrocytoma, and oligodendroglioma, as well as metastatic cancers that have spread to the brain from other locations. Veterans may develop brain cancer from exposure to toxic substances during service including Agent Orange, burn pit smoke, radiation, industrial chemicals, or contaminated water at military installations. The PACT Act has expanded presumptive conditions for toxic exposure-related cancers, making it easier for many veterans to establish service connection.
