Diagnostic Code 5215 · 38 CFR §4.71a
DC 5215 rates limitation of wrist motion, including both dorsiflexion (bending the wrist backward) and palmar flexion (bending the wrist forward). This is one of the most commonly filed wrist conditions among veterans. The wrist needs full range of motion for gripping, lifting, typing, and most hand-intensive tasks. When motion is limited by arthritis, fracture residuals, or ligament damage, these activities become painful and difficult. Veterans commonly develop wrist limitations from fractures, repetitive strain, heavy lifting, and other physical demands of military service.
