Diagnostic Code 5229 · 38 CFR §4.71a
DC 5229 rates limitation of motion of the index finger or the long (middle) finger. These fingers are important for precision grip, pointing, typing, and many fine motor tasks. The rating is based on the gap between the fingertip and the palm when you try to make a fist. Veterans commonly develop limitations in these fingers from fractures, dislocations, tendon injuries, or crush injuries sustained during military service.
