Diagnostic Code 5250 · 38 CFR §4.71a
Hip ankylosis means the hip joint has become permanently fixed in one position and cannot move. This can result from severe arthritis, trauma, infection, or failed surgical procedures. For veterans, hip ankylosis often develops from service-connected injuries that progressively destroyed the joint. Because the hip is essential for walking, sitting, and virtually all lower body movement, ankylosis here causes profound functional limitations.
