Diagnostic Code 5208 · 38 CFR §4.71a
DC 5208 applies when you have a specific combination of limited elbow motion: flexion limited to 100 degrees and extension limited to 45 degrees in the same elbow. This code captures the combined functional impact when both bending and straightening are moderately restricted but neither alone would qualify for a higher rating. This pattern commonly results from elbow fractures that healed with stiffness, arthritis affecting the entire joint, or surgical procedures that limited motion in both directions. Veterans may develop this pattern from combat injuries, training fractures, or progressive arthritis from service-connected elbow conditions.
