Dislocated Semilunar Cartilage (Meniscus) VA Disability Rating

Diagnostic Code 5258 · 38 CFR §4.71a

What Is It?

Dislocated semilunar cartilage refers to a torn or displaced meniscus in the knee. The menisci are two C-shaped pieces of cartilage that cushion the knee joint between the thighbone and shinbone. When a meniscus tears and displaces, it can cause the knee to lock, catch, or give way. This is one of the most common knee injuries among veterans, frequently caused by running, jumping, squatting with heavy loads, or traumatic twisting injuries during service.
