Diagnostic Code 5012 · 38 CFR §4.71a
Benign bone growths include non-cancerous tumors and abnormal bone formations such as osteochondromas, enchondromas, giant cell tumors, and bone cysts. While these growths are not cancer, they can cause pain, weaken the bone structure, press on nearby nerves, and limit movement in adjacent joints. Some may require surgical removal, which can itself leave functional limitations. Veterans may develop these conditions during service or have them identified during military medical evaluations, and they can be service-connected if they cause functional impairment.
