Ankylosis of the Ring or Little Finger — VA Disability Rating Criteria (DC 5227)

Diagnostic Code 5227 · 38 CFR §4.71a

What Is It?

Ankylosis of the ring finger or little finger means complete loss of motion in that finger. These fingers contribute to grip power but are considered less functionally important than the thumb, index, or middle fingers. The VA assigns a 0% (non-compensable) rating for favorable ankylosis, but a compensable 10% rating may apply for unfavorable ankylosis or if it interferes with overall hand function.

Rating Criteria
