What Is It?

Ankylosis of five digits (all fingers including the thumb) of one hand means complete loss of motion in every finger joint of that hand. The hand is essentially non-functional for gripping, grasping, or manipulating objects. This is rated at 70% for the dominant hand or 60% for the non-dominant hand. Veterans with this level of hand disability should also explore Special Monthly Compensation (SMC) for loss of use of the hand.

Evidence Needed
