Your data never leaves your browser when you use Vet Debrief. Here's exactly how the tool works to keep your information private and secure.
Veterans are understandably cautious about sharing personal information online, especially details about their military service, disability ratings, and personal circumstances. That's why Vet Debrief was designed from the ground up with a privacy-first architecture. Here's exactly how it works.
When you fill out the Vet Debrief questionnaire, your answers are processed entirely within your web browser. The code that matches your answers to eligible benefits runs on your device — not on a server somewhere. Your service branch, dates of service, disability rating, state of residence, and all other answers never leave your browser. There is no database of user responses, no user accounts, no server-side processing of your information.
Technically, your answers are stored in your browser's local storage (similar to a cookie) so that if you come back later, you don't have to start over. This data exists only on your device and can be cleared at any time by clearing your browser data. No one else — not Vet Debrief, not any third party — can access your browser's local storage.
We don't use tracking cookies, we don't build user profiles, and we don't sell or share data. The site does use basic analytics to understand aggregate traffic (which pages are popular, how many visitors we get), but this data is anonymized and doesn't include any of your questionnaire answers.
This approach has a trade-off: because your data stays on your device, we can't offer features like emailing you your results or syncing across devices. But we believe that trade-off is worth it. Veterans shouldn't have to create an account or hand over personal information to find out what benefits they've earned. The information about your eligibility is based on publicly available benefit rules — the only thing that needs to be private is your personal details, and those never leave your hands.
If you want to save your results, you can bookmark the results page, print it, or take a screenshot. Your answers will remain in your browser until you clear them, so you can always come back and see your personalized briefing again from the same device.
